Funding Options Celebrates International Youth Day

11 Aug 2022

With interest rates rising, a possible recession on the horizon and the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic still being felt, SMEs need to start looking forward and investing in future generations to survive the coming years.

For young people, particularly those attending or just coming out of college or university, getting jobs and working alongside other people is a challenge that won’t be solved overnight.

Unemployment for 16-24-year-olds in the UK has increased by 13 per cent since 2020, with the Office for National Statistics reporting a drop of 200,000 young people employed in May 2022 compared to March 2020. As young people continue to bear the brunt of job losses, more needs to be done to help school and university leavers looking to join the workplace.

That’s why we at Funding Options are turning our attention toward the next generation of tech talent for International Youth Day. This week we invited 16-year-old Foxx Hurditch into our offices for his work experience, investing in helping him gain valuable skills and knowledge.

Read our Q&A with Foxx below:

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? What do you do?

My name is Foxx Hurditch and ’m currently studying Statistics, Business and Geography for my A Levels, and after the summer holidays, I will be going into year 13.

What do you enjoy most about your education?

The subject I find most interesting is Business Studies. I learn about current business developments, allowing me to put my mind into real business situations. As I progress through the course, I discover new approaches, theories and techniques – all of which I believe will be helpful in my future.

I find myself getting genuinely enthusiastic and motivated as I discover more and more!

How was your week at Funding Options? What type of activities did you do?

My work experience at Funding Options has been very insightful. I learned not only what the business does but also what the working environment and culture are like.

Throughout the week, I got to know the different teams in the business. I joined the meetings (virtual and in-person) and had tasks given to me by team members to complete.

What was your favourite part of the work experience?

My favourite part of the work experience was getting to know the people in the workplace. It was interesting to understand the different roles and responsibilities people have to make a business what it is. It was nice to see how everyone plays a part.

If you had to choose a favourite team at Funding Options, which one would you pick?

My favourite team at Funding Options would have to be the Sales team! I would listen to the Business Finance team talk to business owners and lenders and learn about the different types of loan products businesses would be eligible for.

Is the job what you expected? Was there anything that surprised you about any of the teams?

What surprised me the most was the camaraderie amongst and between the teams, all aiming for the same goal.

What has been the most surprising or interesting thing you have learned during this placement?

The most interesting thing I’ve learned during this placement is the Funding Cloud product. It’s innovative and speedy.
